2015

Read about the brilliant project we were involved with in 2015

Headfield C E (C) Junior School, Dewsbury

During 2015 we teamed up with Headfield C E (C) Junior School in Thornhill Lees, Dewsbury - working closely with their Outdoor Educational Teaching Assistant to improve and maintain the outdoor learning spaces within school grounds.
During our time at Headfield we got involved in loads of different tasks and had a thoroughly great time! Some of the things we got up to were: creating a story circle using tree stump seating, constructing an outdoor art area with tables made of different sized tree stumps, building a leaf store, pruning and relocating fruit trees to revitalise the existing orchard, developing a spiritual zone complete with pallet seating for the children, wood chipping and planting up the borders and beds.
We also received a rather unusual and intriguing request from one of the teachers to design and make a realistic alien spaceship that had crash-landed in school!! The spaceship was to be the focal point for a week-long project "Headfield Under Siege!" where children used the alien craft as a stimulus for a wide range of work from newspaper reports to poetry and artwork.
We had a group discussion and decided a colourful cube was the best design; we set about making it as sci-fi and alien-ish as we could! The gang did a fantastic job using their construction skills and imagination, and the whole week was a resounding success.
