2016

Read about some of the brilliant projects we were involved with in 2016

Wilton Park, Batley

In October and November of 2016, we teamed up with Kirklees Parks and Green Spaces, and the Friends of Wilton Park, Batley to tackle a couple of issues requiring attention within the park.

We spent some time trying to mitigate against potential flooding by clearing debris from the ravine and beginning to take out years of compacted silt from one of the drains (including removing a rusted-in drain grill that had not moved for decades!).We also began the task of tackling a section of woodland to open up the vista from the top end of the park and let in some much needed light. As you can see from the before and after photograph below - within just 3 sessions it's already looking like an impressive transformation.

The gang had such a great time on this project they keep asking when we'll be going back! We will return in 2017 to resume our work at Wilton Park.

New Wortley Community Centre, Leeds

In May 2016, we received a call from New Wortley Community Centre asking for our help to work in partnership with Community Centre volunteers on an outdoor transformation project. Our mission was to revamp a space of rough/waste ground into an area suitable for a garden party; to coincide with the grand opening of their fantastic new Community Centre building.

We only had 6 sessions to complete the task (mostly in absolute blazing heat I might add!) but the team rose to the challenge and together we created a stunning transformation; complete with a 40 foot long deck, paved performance area, gravel path, wood chipped play area and log seating. Wow! Great teamwork!
We had an absolute ball creating this fantastic space, and the whole team were (rightly so) very proud of themselves for what they achieved.
Check out this slideshow for pictorial progress of how the site was transformed.

Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury

During 2016 we've continued to enjoy a wonderful relationship with Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury; assisting park staff and the Friends of Crow Nest Park with numerous tasks throughout the year. We've tackled all manner of jobs including bulb planting, painting the MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) walls, weeding flowerbeds, wire brushing the pavilions surrounding the lake in preparation for painting, cutting back shrubs, repairing a damaged section of fencing, wood chip spreading and litter picks.

In 2016, Crow Nest Park once again received the prestigious Green Flag award (for 2016/17) and we were extremely proud to have played our part in helping them achieve this.
