Walk and Transform

Walk and improve the local environment

From August 2018 to January 2019, Walk and Transform was a hugely successful project which saw us walking and exploring various routes all over Kirklees and improving the environment for local communities.

"I frequently use this path and had been on holiday. When I got back the transformation blew me away. It's now not murky and ramshackle. Thank you. Truly. Legends."

"Well done all, I used to sometimes go down that way, a short cut to visit family. Stopped going because of the litter and overgrown trees, now I will feel safe going that way again. Thank you."

"They all need a citizen’s award; they're doing an amazing job all over. Thank you to everyone for making areas accessible again"

“I was walking in my local woods with my dogs and came across this wonderful group who were cutting back brambles and clearing paths. Thank you Transformers North for making the effort to tidy up local areas”

"What a warm hearted and great service to the community. Thank you"

Funded by CityConnect and West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Walk and Transform was aimed at unemployed adults who want to learn new skills, meet new people, explore their local area on foot and improve the local environment.
  • Tuesdays were our walking day; focusing on urban or urban fringe routes which link communities to places of employment, job centres, community centres, libraries etc. and incorporating a footpath or area which has accessibility or safety issues and in need of a Transformers North makeover.
  • Wednesdays were our environmental improvement day which sees us return to and transform the footpath or area requiring our help; opening it up for everyone, ensuring safety and accessibility are restored.
We achieved some fantastic transformations and received fabulous feedback from those who benefitted from the team's hard work (some of which you can read above).
Please check out the slideshow below to have look at what we got up to :)
